Ongoing exhibitions in the municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia

Etruscan Paintings Tell. Myth and ritual from Caere to Vetulonia.

An extraordinary new recovery by the Guardia di Finanza.

At MuVet - Isidoro Falchi Civic Archaeological Museum - in Vetulonia from March 27 to May 5 the exhibition "Etruscan Paintings Tell. Myth and Ritual from Caere to Vetulonia" an extraordinary new recovery of the Guardia di Finanza.  The exclusive stars of the display are four Etruscan painted terracotta slabs from clandestine excavations near Cerveteri, Etruscan Caere, rescued from the illegal market thanks to the irreplaceable vigilance, protection, preservation and enhancement activities that the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the province of Viterbo and southern Etruria has always carried out in full and fruitful collaboration with law enforcement agencies and in particular with the Sezione Tutela Beni Demaniali e di Interesse Pubblico (Section for the Protection of State Property and Public Interest) of the Guardia di Finanza in Rome.
A recovery of extreme archaeological value that has returned new, unknown masterpieces of Etruscan Archaic painting, which after being exhibited to the public for the first time at the Museum of Etruscan and Italic Antiquities of Rome's Sapienza University, will be on display at Muvet from March 27 to May 5, 2024. The exhibited plates, as emphasized in the title of the exhibition, are true paintings on which vivid colors and original Etruscan iconographies masterfully immortalize nodal characters and episodes of Greek myth, powerfully telling them and evoking from a single frame ancient stories that interweave human, heroic and divine events.
The exhibition can be visited during the opening hours of the MuVet Museum of Vetulonia.
